Ellesmere Port and District

About us

We are a charity based group to provide a forum for the older person who wants to meet up with other people who have similar interests. This is an international organisation who all meet regularly. In the UK there are something like 1000 u3a groups with an estimate of over 400,000 members. In Ellesmere Port we have about 150 members.

Our main meeting is held once per month and generally hosts a speaker followed by coffee/tea and biscuits. All this for only £2 per month. Currently we are trying to keep the costs down and have maintained our annual membership fee of £15 for the period up to March 2025.

The main structure of our organisation is the network of Special Interests Groups (or Groups as they are known). These meet at regular intervals in various venues to cater for the interests of our members. As examples we have, inter alia, the following: walking, bridge, dining, 10 pin bowling, local history, cribbage, as well as many others. You can find more details by clicking on Groups.

We also have visits to many interesting places. These are organised by a variety of coordinators. There is a charge for coaches, etc, but every effort is made to keep the costs down.

Our accounting year is to the following March. If you join us after 31 December we will count your subscription to be in the following accounting year. In addition, we allow prospective members to come to two meetings of the main monthly meeting, and/or an interest group, to enable them to see if they want an annual membership.
